Brickout 2.0 Demo
We have an early functional demo online. The layout editor is active (but you can't save in the demo) and there is now theme music. There are still significant features to complete over the next few days
- contrast control on editor
- ball speed indicator in editor
- adding the final graphics, sound effects and music
- adding bonuses for bricks and other special effects
When you load the demo (Flash 9 is required), you launch straight into the editor. Here you can adjust many aspects of the game (brick size, bat size, ball speed etc) and test-play the levels. There is no save function in the demo so when you close your browser the changes will be lost.
You can also 'draw' designs in the brick grid by choosing a color by clicking on a brick in the brick menu at the bottom of the screen, then holding the mouse button down and moving across the grid of bricks. Currently if you 'draw' too quickly then some bricks will not be painted in the new color but this will be fixed in the next few days.
If you are using a switch to play the game it can be played by any switch that emulates the spacebar or a mouse-click. The bat can also be controled by moving the mouse or pressing a left or right cursor key. Currently you will need to click the mouse to start each level but within the next 48 hours we will be adding a dwell function (then just hover the mouse cursor over the start button for 1 second to start).
Also, when using a single switch (mouse click or spacebar), the ball bounces off to the left if the switch is pressed then the ball is halfway down the screen, off to the right if the ball is close to the bat, and straight up when the ball is 3/4 of the way down the screen.
We hope the game will be playable by most people with some vision (let us know if you find any limitations). In phase 2 of the project, expected later this year, we will be extending the games with more sound feedback to support players who have no useable vision. |
